Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy is pleased to present our lively flamenco dance recital called ¡ Fiesta !, featuring Mozaico Flamenco dancers and the Mozaico Flamenco musical community! This wonderful concert depicts the vibrancy of fiery flamenco dance with live musicians. Flamenco in its true form is a “cuadro” where dancers perform solo with guitar, singer and palmas (hand clapping). In this show, we bring Andalucia, home of Tangos and Bulerias por Fiesta, to North Vancouver! In the Spain, you can witness the spontaneity of flamenco, where people break out into song and dance in the streets, at restaurants, parties, after church or whenever they are so inspired! Let’s bring on the heat to melt the winter in Canada!

Background: The art of Flamenco originates from the south of Spain from a town called Jerez de la Frontera, where the traveling Roma gypsy families migrated from India, through Northern Africa and landed in Spain. Pure Flamenco is what we call the “Cuadro”, which is one solo dancer with live guitarist, singer and percussion in the form of palmas (handclapping). The cuadro functions much like an interaction between jazz musicians who each take the lead in crafting the music. Similarly, the dance interacts with live singer, guitarist and percussion to create an energetic performance with unexpected surprises. We are so pleased to provide this amazing experience to our dancers, as they seek a transcendence in this art form, as they experience a connection to fellow artists and learn to “speak” flamenco language in the intimate Cuadro.
