NAIKE PONCE is one of the rising flamenco artists in Spain today. While true to her traditions, she has a modern and unique style which has led her to tour globally with some of the finest flamenco artists of her generation. Despite her youth, Naike possesses a voice of body and power, characteristic of the classical cantaoras of Jerez, Moron de la Frontera, Utrera and Cadiz. Her cante is exciting and urgent, balanced by a versatile and mature musical ability within the traditional flamenco palos as well as other genres.
Born in Sanlucar de Barrammeda at the mouth of the Guadalquivir, she was discovered as a child by the renowned “La Sallago”. Her success in festivals and competitions took her to study at Cristina Heeren Foundation in Sevilla. Throughout her professional life she has performed and recorded with great artists such as Manolo Sanlúcar, Estrella Morente, Jorge Pardo, Emilio Maya, Rocío Molina, Javier “La Torre”, and Árcangel.
Currently residing in Madrid, she performs regularly at some of the city’s renowned theatres and tablaos, such as Casa Patas. She has worked professionally in Japan, the US, England, France, Belgium, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, China, Taiwan, India, the Ukraine, Morocco, Mexico, and Columbia. This is her first time in Canada.
